Upcycled and Unique Shelving Ideas.

I have been browsing some

upcycled furniture ideas,
as of late, in anticipation of our soon to be new home and I have decided I would like to take a stab at something like these

unique shelving ideas.

I am not exactly sure yet where in our house it will end up though.
It will probably depend on how it turns out! :)

There is a second hand store opening up quite close to us in about a week so I will be frequenting the aisles in order to find the perfect combo of tables...

AND
once we have a yard and a garage I might actually have somewhere to DO some of the projects that I have been longing to do for so long!

I really like the idea do painting everything to match... but it does take away a bit of the eclectic feel.

Either way, this ideas is soooo cute and if I can make it happen at some point soon,

I will.

Dear; Chartreuse, Grey & Black Chair... You were a great find. Love, Melissa

 Hello again folks!

As you can see, I am making my best effort to post a little more frequently...

On a recent trip to HOME SENSE I happened across the perfect chair.

I had been looking into the cost of reupholstering an antique chair into a modern fabric of my choosing...which I would have preferred...
BUT
Quite frankly, it was too expensive for our
"first time homebuyers budget"
SO

I saw this chair and thought....well...although it may be cheaply made it still has the look I'm going for!
We can't always get exactly what we want and although I would much prefer to give new life to an older chair...it just wasn't in the cards...or in the wallet I should say.

I apologize for the mediocre picture... It is, of course, taken from my iphone.
BUT
You get the idea.
She sure is handsome isn't she ;)

I personally think it was a great find and an almost steal at $249.
BUT
Picking up this chair has made me reanalyze my planned colour scheme slightly with the introduction of....
GREY & BLACK
into the equation.

So the color scheme will be like the above picture but in addition there will also be pops of
aqua and perhaps cherry red...
(p.s. I LOOOOOVE this fabric.  It is exactly my style)

So we then went looking for an affordable grey couch.
Of course, the first place we looked was

BUT

Do we go with light grey or the dark...
I'm still on the fence with this one...
but I'm leaning towards the dark (above)

I like the pops of color with grey and the woods in the below pic...

I also like the airy feeling to the above pic with the light greys...
We will have very dark hardwood floors and a dark fireplace after all...

BUT
I still want to make sure that whatever color scheme I do end up settling on that it isn't too modern to keep things
a little rustic...
a little vintage...
and a little folksy...

I don't want anything too sophisticated.

That just wouldn't be right for me.

*:AQUA & CHARTREUSE:* A combo that has me giggling with excitement...

OH! Hello there!
It's just me....
your long lost blogger....

I feel like all I have been doing at the beginning of each post has been apologizing lately for not posting NEARLY frequently enough...
So this time I won't go into it too much.

I'll just give you the short version:

New job, bought house, in wedding, house stuff, another wedding, more house stuff.... and well, you get the picture, right?

So since my husband and I went today to pick out all of the finishes for our house scheduled to be built this November, I have (again) been thinking about design..

Since we have been keeping the upgrades to a minimum....and by minimum I mean we have almost NO upgrades that were not a bonus of some sort, it has been somewhat limiting as far as design goes.
If you are a follower of this blog then you already know that I have been pining after a Retro Red and Aqua Kitchen.
BUT

Since I won't be having aqua cabinets any time soon, I'm going to have to improvise.  We picked a dark brown for the wood cabinets and a light unoffensive counter.  we also chose a very dark stain for our hardwood throughout the main floor. (all woods have no red in them...)

So I figured I would be doing punches of red and aqua throughout the kitchen and therefor was thinking...
How am I going to make this make sense with the rest of the space?... Since it is a very open concept floor plan.

So I was browsing some design pics and came across an awesome combo..that is..

AQUA AND CHARTREUSE

I am suuuuper into this combo right now.
It looks fresh, it looks retro and best of all it is NOT beige.

So I figured I would share some of the awesome living rooms that I have come across on my search for inspiration.

I think both the aqua or the chartreuse green look fantastic on the walls...but I haven't decided if I am ballsy enough to do either....

The aqua is very fresh and cool...where as the aqua is daring and vibrant.

The above pic is a good example of a very subdues soft version of this colour combo...

I'm thinking it might be good to keep the walls fairly toned down so that I can add some statement pieces that have pops of colour... like the ottoman in the above pic or the chairs and curtains in the pic below...

I really only have discovered my love for this combo quite recently and haven't really figured how I'm going to work it out.

Perhaps soon enough down the line I will post pics of my living room all "worked out"!

BUT

for now I dream...and I wait.

and I share!
